INTRAWARE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES COMPLIANCE AUDIT FOR FEDERAL REHABILITATION ACT: SECTION 508
ORINDA, Calif., - August 1, 2006 - Intraware®, Inc. [NASDAQ: ITRA], a leading provider of electronic software and license delivery and management solutions, today announced that it has successfully passed a compliance audit for the Federal Rehabilitation Act - Section 508: Subpart B-Technical Standards: §1194.22, for its SubscribeNet service. The compliance audit was conducted by a 3rd party organization that specializes in Section 508: Subpart B audits.
"The compliance audit was specifically ordered for the IBM Rational implementation of SubscribeNet, but the base capabilities and feature set are common components available to any current or prospective customers," said Richard Northing, Chief Operating Officer at Intraware. "Section 508 compliance for the IBM Rational implementation will be managed as an ongoing technology compliance program, helping to ensure access to SubscribeNet for people with visual impairments."
"IBM Rational License Key Center, which utilizes Intraware's SubscribeNet service, is specially-designed for people with vision impairments who rely on various assistive products to access computer-based information, such as screen readers, which translate what is on a computer screen into automated audible output, and refreshable Braille displays," said David DiMillo, electronic licensing strategy, IBM Rational Software.
In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.
Accessible sites offer significant advantages that go beyond access. For example, those with "text-only" options provide a faster downloading alternative and can facilitate transmission of web-based data to cell phones and personal digital assistants.
